Audrey and Donald Dowling opened the doors of Portage Hill Art Gallery in 1982 in their newly purchased 1800s Greek Revival home, with the mission of creating a gallery where regional art could be shown year round. Now, 40 years later, they are continuing and celebrating this mission. “Finding Truth Through Nature” is a one woman show that focuses on Audrey’s love of nature as a source of her truth. Inspired by the beautiful country area around her, she creates and evolves with her work as a form of capturing and honoring this beauty. This show will be using paper and mixed media printmaking and painting to makes pieces, both 2D and 3D. Please join us for punch and cake at this opening to help us celebrate!
The body of work currently featured in the Skylight Room at the Portage Hill Art Gallery is really the essence of Audrey Kay Dowling.

“Flow” is a clay show of works by Audrey Kay Dowling, an award winning ceramicist. Flow refers to life’s flow, but especially the influence of flowing water on Audrey and her work. The grand daughter of a British Sea Captain and the daughter of a British Merchant Marine Chief Engineer, Audrey feels that water and it’s moods have flowed through her all of her life. Raised on three creeks, then living on the Hudson River and near oceans and now living summers in a Lake Erie cottage, water has never been far from her. The show will also include her love of gardening and some abstract pieces inspired by man made rust belt decay that she sees when she passes the old decaying Rust Belt steel industrial buildings on her way to Buffalo, NY, her nearest large city.
Seeing a heron at the edge of a wood’s pond was a memorable moment for me that I wanted to share.
